For the second time after 2014 MMM has been awarded for its innovation potential with the TOP 100 Innovator award.

Stadlern – For the 23rd time, the TOP 100 companies have been awarded for being the most innovative companies of the German Mittelstand. MMM Münchener Medizin Mechanik GmbH is one of this innovation elite for the second time after 2014. The company, based in Stadlern, Upper Palatinate, took part in a sophisticated, scientific selection process. Both the innovation management and innovation success were examined. On the occasion of the German SME Summit in Essen on 24 June, mentor of the innovation competition, Ranga Yogeshwar, honors the top innovator.
Good working conditions encourage the internal innovation atmosphere - and vice versa, innovative companies are perceived as an interesting employer by outsiders. The experiences of MMM - Münchener Medizin Mechanik GmbH show: "We are the leader in our field. Application engineers from other areas come to us, where they can contribute and realize their creative ideas", says the managing director Robert Eibl.
Founded in 1954, the family business with almost 500 employees develops and sells products and services for cleaning, sterilization and disinfection equipment. As a leading system provider for sterile processing, MMM has positioned itself as a pioneer of quality and innovation in the market. Its customers are hospitals, scientific institutes and the pharmaceutical industry. On international grounds, the German market leader belongs to the leading group of his profession and has two national and international patents. Worldwide, the MMM Group employs almost 1,100 employees at over 15 locations.
The company from the Upper Palatinate was particularly convincing with the way how it integrates customers in the development and improvement of new products. A vast range of services, trainings and innovation workshops contributes to the intensive networking with customers, so many ideas directly stem from this exchange. At the same time, MMM is the only company in the sector that is an accredited training center for customers and regularly receives a true picture of the situation on site. Very often, the senior managers take also part in the employee training and the common brainstorming then helps to generate new ideas. Moreover, new colleagues traditionally make a training on the job at the customers’ site and develop new perspectives by their fresh look at things.
More than 4,000 companies were interested in the participation in TOP 100 this year. 366 of them competed for the qualifying round. Of this, 284 in the final round. 238 finally made it under the TOP 100 (a maximum of 100 in each of the three size categories). As in the past, the companies were assessed by Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and his team from the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Vienna University of Economics. They analysed more than 100 parameters in five categories from "Innovation-friendly Top Management", "Atmosphere of innovation", "Innovation processes and organisation", "Innovation marketing / open mindedness" and "Success in innovation".
The TOP 100 companies are the pacemakers in their sectors. The analysis of the figures show: Among the companies are 97 national market leaders and 32 global market leaders. On the average, they realized 40 percent of their sales with market novelties and product improvements that they launched on the market ahead of their competition. Sales growth here was 28 percentage points above the industry average. Together, SME filed 2,292 national and international patents in the past three years. This power of innovation pays off in jobs: The TOP 100 companies plan to hire around 9,500 new employees in the next three years.
The mentor of TOP 100, the science journalist and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar is impressed by the quality of the companies and hopes for a signaling effect: "The way how the TOP 100 generate new ideas and develop pioneering products and services, is remarkable in every sense of the word. I am therefore pleased that the award makes these qualities visible. Hopefully, their success encourages other companies to follow suit. This culture of innovation will be more and more important for all companies in the future."
Since 1993 compamedia awards the Top 100 prize as approval for special innovation and exceptional innovative achievements at mid-sized companies. The project is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics since 2002. Patron of TOP 100 is the science journalist and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar. Project partners are the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research and BVMW.
